Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne’s children are “rallying around” their grieving mum as the matriarch continues to mourn the loss of her beloved Ozzy while also dealing with the stress of the crippling debt he left behind.
Insiders have revealed the Black Sabbath rocker’s final days were spent trying to dig his family out of the financial black hole they were in, which includes an almost $8 million tax bill he and Sharon owed.
NO MONEY COMING IN
“He was in serious debt towards the end when he was dying and it’s clear Ozzy was determined to work hard so he could get his family as much money as possible, which makes it so tragic,” a source tells Woman’s Day of his final weeks, which saw the “frail” musician perform for the final time with his band in Birmingham.
“A lot of people worry he pushed himself too far doing the last show, but he had his reasons, especially with the debts they racked up. Now, Sharon has to pick up the pieces and figure out what they have and settle accounts.”
Behind the scenes, Ozzy’s final months were being filmed for a BBC documentary, which could be seen as another form of revenue for his struggling family. Despite amassing an estimated $337 million through his long music career and reality TV ventures, Sharon, 72, is said to be fretting their empire will crumble when the debt collectors come knocking – starting with their palatial Hancock Park property in LA possibly being taken away.
“The feds and their other creditors will be coming after the estate,” an insider says. “Ozzy always prided himself on how well they did as a family. He built up an impressive portfolio, but at the same time there wasn’t enough money coming in. Outgoings were steep, even with his royalties. Sharon will have to deal with that and it’s another headache to add to her already overwhelming woes.”
As Ozzy was going through his battle with Parkinson’s disease, his wife of 43 years has endured her own health problems, from colon cancer decades ago to issues with her mental health, weight and appearance.
“It’s a terrible situation for anyone to be in, especially one who’s had so many health woes of her own to deal with,” the insider adds of her current money crisis.
HEALING THROUGH HEARTACHE
Yet, it’s not all stress and heartache now that Ozzy’s gone. Before he died, the rocker was able to see his daughters Aimee, 41, and Kelly, 40, finally make up after years of estrangement and an insider tells Woman’s Day the reunion was “incredibly moving” for Ozzy to witness.
“It means the world to everyone that Kelly and Aimee have come to a place of peace at last, and it gave Ozzy so much comfort in his final days,” says the insider.
“There had been so many years of distance between them but in the end, family came first.”
In 2021, Kelly admitted she and her older sister “don’t talk”, saying, “We’re just really different. She doesn’t understand me and I don’t understand her.”
But Kelly, now a mum to young son Sidney, managed to put those differences with Aimee aside for the sake of their mourning family. “Kelly’s really stepped up, making sure her mother eats, sleeps and has people around her, and she’s also being very gracious with Aimee,” the source says. “They’re not pretending the past didn’t happen, but they’re both making a real effort to move forward with kindness and mutual respect.”
